McBrayer Ethics Counsel Cary B. Howard, Jr. was interviewed by LEX 18 for a story regarding a potential conflict of interest between a Commonwealth's Attorney and her husband who is a candidate for judge in the same circuit.
Mr. Howard, who has a great deal of experience handling legal ethical matters, was asked to provide insight on the issue. In response to a 1980 case about a father-son judge-attorney pair being cited in the matter, he explained, "The law is different now. The court has made rulings and changed the rules since 1980. In a way that makes it clear that what we are interested in is maintaining an appearance of propriety and or avoiding an appearance of impropriety to the whole community."
Mr. Howard serves as Ethics Counsel, General Counsel, and Member of McBrayer. He is also a member of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government Ethics Commission.
